A showcase of the changes the region has seen and felt over the last few years, Projekt Renewable was designed to act as a catalyst to encourage positive conversations about how younger generations can tap into the significant opportunities that exist with the renewables sector thriving on their doorstep, via the natural world around them, thanks to innovative thinking. With one eye on the past, and the other on the future, the team knows that while maritime is still a key driver of growth for the region, it’s now renewables and the associated supply chains that are generating increased interest in investments for the area. Grimsby has long been a town of opportunity and Projekt is there to continue that, primarily focused on young people but keeping the older generation in the loop as advocates for the opportunity the area brings. To be a driving force working within the Energy Estuary.
One of Projekt Renewable’s aims is to demonstrate to all age groups what a 21st century industrial powerhouse looks like and the benefits they bring to a region. Gone are the days of chimneys and fishing trawlers dominating the skyline; Projekt Renewable exists to show that offshore wind turbines and the ships that transport people to them are part of the present and future industrial growth of the Humber. The offshore wind industry struggles, in some ways, to establish a visible presence because, by its very nature, the recognisable elements of its day-to-day existence sit offshore, largely out of sight. By working with leading internationally-known brands such as RWE and The Crown Estate, Projekt is beginning to educate young people in particular about the impact that offshore wind is having economically and from a planet preservation and repair perspective.
Projekt Renewable is now actively facilitating community engagement, supported by Target NEL and North East Lincolnshire Council, to bring people together and act as a hub for creativity, innovation and ideas without boundaries.
Earlier this year the team launched the East Coast’s first Wind Farm Boat Tour. Supported by local businesses with a pay-it-forward scheme, these trips represent a milestone moment in helping people to engage more with renewables and get up close to the technology that is fuelling our future.
Collaborations have led to Projekt Renewable hosting incredibly inspiring events, designed to engage young people and offer up a lightbulb moment when it comes to the opportunities that already exist within the region.
We’re home to The Studio, where The Podkast is recorded; a purpose-built recording studio the on-site facilities allow schools to come and create their own content and beam it out to the classroom.
The work that has been done so far - and will be done - at Projekt Renewable simply wouldn’t be possible with sincere partnerships across the business and renewable communities here in Grimsby. Could you contribute to the work we’re doing? Get in touch.

Partnering with like-minded people and businesses who not only see the true value in our mission but share them too has been key to the evolution of Projekt Renewable. Having started out with a focus on our private sector patrons, working with them to get their boxes at Projekt Renewable up and running - designed, on-site and utilised - was very much the first phase. Since early Spring 2024, the team has very much shifted its focus towards supporting the community even more. Collaborating with the likes of The Culture House (and others) and being a backdrop for numerous standout regional events they have hosted, has led us to offer Target NEL a part-time residency. Using Projekt Renewable as a base for the work Joanne and her team are delivering to engage children in the community, Projekt Renewable is now actively facilitating community engagement, supported by Child Services at North East Lincolnshire Council, to bring people together as a hub for creativity, innovation and ideas without boundaries. At an operational level, Projekt Renewable’s partnership with the local authority too ensures the team remains accountable for how funding is being used.
“The project has brought together the community, residents, businesses, and organisations to support a common goal: empowering the next generation, which is a fundamental core mission for Target NEL too.”
Joanne Lord, Founder & CEO of Target NEL CIC
