What you need to know about us

Evolutionary and revolutionary

A showcase of the changes the region has seen and felt over the last few years, Projekt Renewable was designed to act as a catalyst to encourage positive conversations about how younger generations can tap into the significant opportunities that exist with the renewables sector thriving on their doorstep, via the natural world around them, thanks to innovative thinking.  With one eye on the past, and the other on the future, the team knows that while maritime is still a key driver of growth for the region, it’s now renewables and the associated supply chains that are generating increased interest in investments for the area. Grimsby has long been a town of opportunity and Projekt is there to continue that, primarily focused on young people but keeping the older generation in the loop as advocates for the opportunity the area brings. To be a driving force working within the Energy Estuary.

Celebrating our past, embracing our future

One of Projekt Renewable’s aims is to demonstrate to all age groups what a 21st century industrial powerhouse looks like and the benefits they bring to a region. Gone are the days of chimneys and fishing trawlers dominating the skyline; Projekt Renewable exists to show that offshore wind turbines and the ships that transport people to them are part of the present and future industrial growth of the Humber. The offshore wind industry struggles, in some ways, to establish a visible presence because, by its very nature, the recognisable elements of its day-to-day existence sit offshore, largely out of sight. By working with leading internationally-known brands such as RWE and The Crown Estate, Projekt is beginning to educate young people in particular about the impact that offshore wind is having economically and from a planet preservation and repair perspective.

Community

Projekt Renewable is now actively facilitating community engagement, supported by Target NEL and North East Lincolnshire Council, to bring people together and act as a hub for creativity, innovation and ideas without boundaries.

Boat Trips

Earlier this year the team launched the East Coast’s first Wind Farm Boat Tour. Supported by local businesses with a pay-it-forward scheme, these trips represent a milestone moment in helping people to engage more with renewables and get up close to the technology that is fuelling our future.

Inspiration

Collaborations have led to Projekt Renewable hosting incredibly inspiring events, designed to engage young people and offer up a lightbulb moment when it comes to the opportunities that already exist within the region.

Innovation

We’re home to The Studio, where The Podkast is recorded; a purpose-built recording studio the on-site facilities allow schools to come and create their own content and beam it out to the classroom.

Partnership

The work that has been done so far - and will be done - at Projekt Renewable simply wouldn’t be possible with sincere partnerships across the business and renewable communities here in Grimsby. Could you contribute to the work we’re doing? Get in touch.

Education

By working with leading internationally-known brands such as RWE and The Crown Estate, Projekt Renewable is beginning to educate young people in particular about the impact that offshore wind is having economically and from a planet preservation and repair perspective.

Demonstrating authenticity and integrity, always

Partnering with like-minded people and businesses who not only see the true value in our mission but share them too has been key to the evolution of Projekt Renewable. Having started out with a focus on our private sector patrons, working with them to get their boxes at Projekt Renewable up and running - designed, on-site and utilised - was very much the first phase. Since early Spring 2024, the team has very much shifted its focus towards supporting the community even more. Collaborating with the likes of The Culture House (and others) and being a backdrop for numerous standout regional events they have hosted, has led us to offer Target NEL a part-time residency. Using Projekt Renewable as a base for the work Joanne and her team are delivering to engage children in the community, Projekt Renewable is now actively facilitating community engagement, supported by Child Services at North East Lincolnshire Council, to bring people together as a hub for creativity, innovation and ideas without boundaries. At an operational level, Projekt Renewable’s partnership with the local authority too ensures the team remains accountable for how funding is being used.

FAQs

What is Projekt Renewable? Projekt Renewable landed in Grimsby in September 2023, with phase one of this ground-breaking scheme designed not only to celebrate the opportunities presented by sustainable energy production in the area and be a catalyst for the green economic regeneration of the town but also to bridge the gap between industry and community. As of November 2023, on-site there is The Studio - a podcast studio where The Podkast is recorded; a meeting room area, and two spaces for RWE Renewables UK and myenergi to have an on-site presence and inspire young minds and the local community, regarding the world of renewables.
Why is it spelled 'Projekt'? Taking cues from our historic links to Scandinavia, this is their way of spelling ‘Project’.
Why put it in Grimsby? Well, Grimsby is at the heart of the renewable energy industry in the UK. The front-runners. The leaders. We couldn’t think of anywhere better.
Why use shipping containers? On a practical level, shipping containers are durable and designed to withstand the worst of weather conditions. Easy to move in a logistical sense, and answering the call for a temporary structure, they are inexpensive, simple to customise and give a subtle nod to the shipping and freight industry that thrives in Alexandra Dock.
How can I use the spaces at Projekt? If you have an interest in the renewables sector, have something to say about it, or want to tie it into podcasts you’re already recording - reach out to us about using The Studio. For meetings, events and use by schools and community groups, the meeting room and studio space can be accessed - get in touch today to enquire about utilising Projekt.
Who is the box park for? Uniting the area’s future and past, situated next door to an icon of Grimsby’s history - the Fishing Heritage Centre - and run largely on solar power, the arrival of this ground-breaking scheme promises not only to celebrate the opportunities presented by sustainable energy production in the area but act as a catalyst for bridging the gap between the industry and the local community, showcasing exactly how versatile, accessible and promising renewables is, for everyone.
Who has invested in Projekt and why? Officially supported by the home-grown talent that is to be found at RWE Renewables UK, myenergi, North East Lincolnshire Council, the Crown Estate, WhiteCrate, Forrester Boyd, Wilkin Chapman, Knapton Wright, Docks Academy and Mockingbird, the collective vision is for Projekt Renewable to gain national significance.
How long is it here for? In short? Until at least March 2025.
How do I get into renewables? Ah - you want to get into the renewable world, do you? In that case, we’d sign-post you to our friends and Patrons at Catch, Grimsby Institute of Further & Higher Education, Franklin College and RWE. From apprenticeships to advice, these guys know their stuff.

“The project has brought together the community, residents, businesses, and organisations to support a common goal: empowering the next generation, which is a fundamental core mission for Target NEL too.”
